Love letters to food - Fugazzi
It’s 6:40pm on Saturday 10th January and I’ve just finished getting ready for dinner. Tonight Nick and I are celebrating our 1 year anniversary with dinner at Fugazzi. I’m already a few glasses of champagne deep and feeling frisky, so we decided to head out early for our dinner. We arrive at their door, a cozy entrance on Leigh Street, and we’re immediately greeted with a smile. The interior was beautiful, with a vibe that was cozy and industrial combined. We were led to our table along the wall, and there was adequate spacing between the tables for me to get to the booth seating without knocking anyone's glasses off of their table. Nick had preordered a bottle of Pol Roger Brut Reserve champagne which was waiting for us as we arrived and tasted heavenly.
While I was nervous about their minimal selection of dishes on their menu (I’m a little bit picky), our choices of pasta were phenomenal, and the starter we ordered that was recommended by a work friend was absolutely delicious. Our starter was the whipped ricotta and gnocco fritto and it totally surpassed our expectations. Nick ordered the Maccheroni Lisci ‘alla vodka’ dish, and I the trottole, pork and fennel sausage dish. The serving sizes were larger than I expected for a restaurant of this calibre which was amazing. I was so full I had to get the rest of mine as a take away! Out of all the restaurants that I’ve dined in (which haven’t been a whole lot), I’d have to say that this was my best experience so far. Our waitress was extremely kind and attentive as well as efficient. I also absolutely loved their cutlery and crockery. Beautiful long forks with and even set of prongs and an elegantly long knife that was still functional despite its aesthetics. If we hadn’t been so full from dinner I would’ve love to try their tiramisu that was being served to other patrons around us.
The background music was loud enough to be heard clearly but not too loud that you couldn’t hold a conversation over it, and the ambience of the whole restaurant was calming as well as impressive. Overall it was an extremely pleasant experience and I would highly recommend Fugazzi to anyone who hasn’t been before (I’d also recommend returning and trying something new if you have been there before too. I know that I will)!
