Hello friends! It’s been a minute since we’ve sat down and had a little catch up, so grab a cup of tea and get comfy!
By the time you’re reading this, Nick and I will have fully moved out from our beautiful house in Everard Park and have moved in with my parents. I’m going to miss our house a lot :(( it was a beautiful house and a great first time rental for me. Honestly we were really spoiled having this be our first rental together, now any other place we apply for in the future will most likely pale in comparison! It was a tough weekend of moving but we made it eventually. My parents were kind enough to help us (with lots of my begging) with caring boxes around and cleaning the house top to bottom. Unfortunately, with one day left of cleaning and tidying up before handing the keys back, I fell sick with the flu. I completed one of the home tests that triples for COVID, Flu and Rv and almost immediately after dripping the test liquid onto the specimen sheet, a second red line appeared next to Flu A. This couldn’t have come at a worse time! So Nick (my knight in shining armour) went back and completed the final cleanings of the house on his own while I suffered and faded away at home. But I’m bouncing back now! With the keys handed back successfully we now just have to wait for the ok to request our bond back. But it’s not a total goodbye to our lovely house, our friends are moving in! Two of our lovely friends applied for the house once we told them we were having to vacate due to our impending move to Sydney and they were accepted! Honestly I don’t see how they could’ve ever been declined but still, yay! So at least it’s staying within our friend-family.
Now onto the big update. As you already know, we’re moving across to Sydney because I’m going back to uni to continue my studies. But what you don’t know is WHAT I’ll be doing. Initially I was looking at doing another bachelors degree in either English, Ancient History or Latin but that was going to be another 3 years in Australia. That matters because for the longest time I’ve been wanting to move back to England (we were meant to be moving after our Europe trip in a few weeks). But I realised that what matter to me more is finally being back in the UK again. So after applying for the Bachelor of Arts degree at The University of Sydney (USYD) and Australian National University (ANU) applied to a few masters courses at USYD (publishing, criminology, and digital communications & cultures). I was accepted into all 3 but ultimately decided that I would aim to complete the digital communications masters first and then the criminology masters so that I’d be set for any potential jobs I’d want to apply for in the future. However, after re-reading The Secret History, watching YouTubers studying at the University of Oxford, and some pretty serious journaling I realised that I wouldn’t be happy if I just did a masters degree now. Yes I want to complete a masters degree at some point, but I also had to remind myself that before the dream of wanting to move back to England, I had another dream, one that has been stuck on my metaphorical dream board since I was about 6 years old. And that is to study at The University of Cambridge. Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to study within their hallowed halls. Not necessarily a certain course, but just there. When I completed my first two degrees I thought that it was all over for me and my dream of Cambridge because my grades were nothing to write home about. But nothing’s over until the bell rings so I went back to my original plan: complete another bachelors. So I waited (impatiently) for any news and on 24th September (when I wasn’t expecting to hear anything back yet), I checked my application portal and there it was, “University of Sydney has offered you a place”. I couldn’t believe it. So here we are. I’ll be doing a Bachelor of Arts double majoring in English and Latin. I know it sounds silly to say that my dream is to study at Cambridge Uni because I’m not and have never been a genius, and typing it out here cements it on the internet. But I’ve wanted this for a long time. I was good at academics when I was in primary school, constantly top 3 in my class at my small private school in Exeter (Bramdean I’ll love you forever). But throughout my high school years in Australia I just stopped caring. So yes, it sounds silly because my life has never fully revolved around academics (especially not the last 10 years), but I can and I will do this.
Everything is also set up and ready to go for our move to Sydney too. I have my uni offer, I have an office transfer approved, and now we have a place to move in to! It’s such a load off of my mind, now I can use that brain power to stress about how we’re going to get our stuff over! It looks like we’ll have to hire a truck or removalists to get all of our boxes and furniture over which will be expensive but if it’s necessary then it’s necessary.
Anyway! Thanks for reading my almost rant there. Probably totally over explained but oh well, it’s my blog. I am really excited to go back to uni, I’ve always wanted to continue studying and especially a course such as English. So really it’s a win win. England will always be there, so once I’ve completed this degree Nick and I will move over to the UK so I can start qualifying for home student fees with Cambridge (I’m and Irish citizen so after 3 years of living in the UK I’ll qualify for home student fees at any British university). I don’t think there’s anything else to update you guys on so I’ll leave it here.
Oh! 3 weeks until we go on our trip to Europe! I’m so excited but also I feel like it hasn’t hit me yet that we’re going on holiday soon. Ok now that’s everything! Until next time <3
