June and July curriculum update
I have a confession, I failed my curriculum.
It’s not for a lack of want, I just got in too far over my head. I had so much motivation at the start of April! But as life took its natural course of ups and downs, I soon got overwhelmed with what I had set myself to complete. For June I had Italian, Irish and criminology as my set subjects, and July was Italian and then any leftover topics from previous months that I either didn’t complete or I wanted to delve more into. Now to be fair, I do one Italian Duolingo lesson a day. It’s no where near enough if I want to fully immerse myself in learning a language, but it’s better than nothing. The only other thing I attempted for my curriculum this month was starting Michel Foucault’s Discipline and punish: the birth and death of the prison. And I’ll admit that I am no where close to finishing it. I’ve been slowly chipping away at it while I’m at work but it’s honestly a tad boring and I just wasn’t in the right mind to fully immerse myself in it.
I have no other excuses for not following and completing my curriculum apart laziness and life. It’s a hard time to adjust to being an adult with a full-time job that has other responsibilities in their life that revolve around simple living. This is my first full time hour job and since I moved out of home last year I’m still learning how to run my household in an efficient way. While I see people on social media completing their fun curriculums, I think some of us forget that they may not be living the same life that we do. It’s not a bad thing to not be working Monday to Friday, if anything it’s the dream! But I think it’s also normal to acknowledge that everyone’s lives are different so following an influencers curriculum pattern to a T might not be the pattern for you, and that’s ok! So because of this, I am going to create a new curriculum for myself but dial it back and only have one or two topics per month for myself to focus on. I’m also going to try and expand my curriculum topics to areas that are outside of academia. Such as calligraphy, creative writing, and scrapbooking. With the upcoming move back into my parents house and then the move to Sydney, I’m not sure when I’ll be starting this new curriculum, but my languages (Italian and Irish) will continue regardless as I really want to work on those as much as possible.
Thank you for reading and I hope to have better news regarding the completion of my next curriculum!
